In this workshop, we will explore and take inspiration from the masterful drawings of numerous artists who have a French connection -- artists such as Picasso, Kupka, Mucha, Šíma, Toulouse-Lautrec, Gauguin, Van Gogh, and Daumier. We will not only analyze their art, but also look for ways to incorporate it directly into our own drawings.

Learning Objectives

Workshop participants will discover how to:

Study masterworks of art in order to develop their own drawing process

Capture and draw stories happening at a location

Infuse drawings with their own thoughts and feelings

What to bring

Sketchbook (minimum A4 size recommended)

Your favorite line drawing tools (for example: drawing pen, fountain pen, marker, pencil)

[Optional] Your favorite color tools (for example: pencils, crayons, pastels, watercolors)

Warm clothing

Your learning spirit and enthusiasm!

About the instructor

Rajesh Dhawan works as a reportage artist, illustrator, mentor, and drawing educator in Prague.

His reportage work has appeared as a cover story in Drawing Attention, the official magazine of Urban Sketchers. His location drawings have been featured in The Urban Sketching Handbook: Panoramas and Vertical Vistas, a part of the official handbook series of Urban Sketchers. He has been interviewed by Český rozhlas, for his work as the education director of Urban Sketchers Prague.

Rajesh conducts talks and workshops for drawing enthusiasts of all levels. His talks and workshops have been hosted by CAMP Prague, Riverside International School in Prague, English College in Prague, Den Architektury Opava, and Urban Sketchers Prague.
