Sketch Walk: Old Town

Let’s meet for a sketch walk during which we’ll explore the romantic lanes of the Old Town district located between the National Theatre and Karlova Street. We’ll walk the route together. We’ll have 3 stops and at each stop we’ll sketch for about 20 minutes before moving on.

Stop 1 – Park národního probuzení (Park of National Awakening)
A pleasant community meeting place on the riverbank, looking at Pražský hrad.

Stop 2 – Anenské náměstí
One of the smallest and most charming hidden squares in the heart of Prague's Staré Město, offering a surprisingly peaceful, secluded atmosphere that feels miles away from the main tourist paths.

Stop 3 – Intersection of Husova and Zlatá streets
The intersection of Husova and Zlatá streets is one of the most enigmatic street corners in the city. Unlike the famous colorful "Golden Lane" (Zlatá ulička) up at Prague Castle, the Old Town's Zlatá Street (Zlatá ulice) is a completely different, quiet pedestrian alleyway. A significant portion of it is closed and locked behind heavy iron gates at night, hopefully we’ll be able to walk through it during our sketchwalk. (Alternatively, we will walk along the neighboring Anenská Street, which is also a very quiet, historic lane dating back to the 14th century.

Please note that we’ll try to go from Anenské náměstí to our 3rd stop through the Zlatá street, which is a very tiny pedestrian lane – more of a passage than a lane in fact. However, it is sometimes closed due to various reasons, so in case you find it closed, you can use the Anenská street which is nearby to get to Stop 3.

For New Members

Our events are open to everyone who enjoys drawing and urban sketching. There are no fees, just bring your own sketchbook and media you like. There is no formal tuition given but you can certainly get inspired by others. All levels are welcome!

If you have urban sketching questions or suggestions, please bring them up with the group admins.
