Maria Ginzburg Watercolor Workshop

Urban Sketchers Prague is proud to announce Maria Ginzburg Watercolor Workshop. Maria's  watercolour painting books have been published in Sweden, Finland and the Czech Republic. Join us and learn how to paint Prague with light, atmosphere and reflections in the water.

You will create your own painting of a beautiful view of Prague following Maria's instructions. This workshop is suitable for both beginners who will acquire new skills and for more experienced painters who are working towards better results.

During the course, Maria will demonstrate practical methods and techniques for mixing colours, painting on wet or on dry paper, and planning your composition. Then she will show you how to paint Prague’s main architectural features as domes,  spires and bridges as well as natural features such as the sky, water and reflections on the river.

Time: Saturday the 10th of September 10:00 - 17:00 (arrival from 9:00)

Schedule

9:00 - 10:00 Arrival and preparation of your work station with your own materials.
10:00 - 13:00 Exercises with colours, urban shapes, and wet-in-wet watercolour technique.
13:00 - 14:00 Lunch on your own.
14:00 - 17:00 Guided step by step painting of a Prague scene with reflections on the water.

Materials

You will need to bring the following materials:

  • watercolour paints
  • brushes - can be borrowed
  • sharp pencil 2B and rubber eraser
  • Paper for exercises. Two pieces of Fabriano watercolor paper for paintings are included in the price.

  • a firm support for the paper
  • masking tape
  • paper towels
  • Color mixing palette. The plastic palette can be good. White paper and porcelain plates can be used as a palette too. You can also mix colors on a sheet of glossy paper that does not absorb water.
  • Water container. Do not use hot water.

  • You may also need: a notebook, scissors, a knife or a pallet knife.

About Maria Ginzburg

Maria Ginzburg is an established watercolour artist and the author of seven books that have been published in Sweden, Finland and Czech Republic. Her latest book Malujeme knihu akvarelem / Painting Prague in Watercolour was published in Czech and English language.

Maria owns an art gallery “Akvarellcenter” in Dalarna (Sweden) where artists from all over the world came to exhibit their paintings and teach watercolour workshops. Her website is available at www.ginzburg.se.
