Urban Sketching Weekend and Workshop in Prague!

We all know about Design weeks and Fashion weeks around the world. They are like pop-up events, bringing people to a city with a common purpose.

In 2016, inside a small office in New York, trying to think ahead about the education of Urban Sketchers along with Elizabeth Alley, Suma CM and Brenda Murray, the concept of hosting an Urban Sketchers Weekend came to my mind… a strong weekend with all the education potential of Urban Sketchers: theoretical knowledge, educational instruction, and the fun of meeting new people just to sketch together.

Well, two years later, the USk Prague Chapter contacted me to organize a workshop. It was the perfect moment to propose this concept. A complete weekend with the experience divided into three moments you need to experience in order to start your journey as an urban sketcher:

1 – A lecture about various master artists who used sketchbooks to draw their daily life, starting with Delacroix, Picasso, Goya, and Le Corbusier among others, but also contemporary artists like Gabi Campanario (who started the Urban Sketchers movement), Lapin, Shari Blaukopf, Behzad Bagheri, TIA Boon Sim, Paul Wong, Veronica Lawlor, Rita Sabler, Fred Lynch, and others.

2 – A workshop about the fundamentals of being an urban sketcher, with exercises to conquer the fear of the first page of the sketchbook, understand that seeing is the first step to successfully sketching, and learn how colors can change the story of a sketch.

3 – A sketchwalk with all the sketchers who want to understand the spirit of the global Urban Sketchers community.

Learning goals

1. Understand, briefly, the history of sketching in sketchbooks
2. Learn how to start using a sketchbook in your daily life
3. Improve your drawing skills
4. Learn how to select parts of what we see on a page
5. Experience the advantages of group learning and seeing the many paths to success
6. Experience what Urban Sketchers is all about
